Because the suffix 'The Hedgehog' is most commonly associated with the popular video game 'Sonic The Hedgehog'. Therefore it's only natural for most people to correctly assume this connection.
For example if I were to be called 'SuperMarioDude' most people would assume that I enjoy the video game franchise Super Mario Bros, whereas I could simply be a super dude who's called Mario.
